DNA testing for Weight loss & Weight management
It is possible that you have gene variants which make you more susceptible to obesity. Indeed, it is accepted that some genes (I.e. the ‘thrifty’ gene) are predisposed to obesity, but were historically an advantageous adaptation during times of starvation. Once your DNA has been tested and your genes and variants identified, we can provide you with the knowledge and advice to take the necessary steps to counteract any genes which may predispose you to weight gain. Furthermore, strengths within your genes will be identified, and we will explain how these can be used to your advantage to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
This test is designed for those who already have, or are approaching, overweight or obese status, or simply those who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Besides, this test is also advisable for people afraid of the genetic load of obesity because of its prevalence with their families. It should also be noted that this test identifies genes that are known to be relation to insomnia, anxiety, and memory issues. The recommendations are based on the test result for an individual genotype and predominantly relates to diet, physical activity and psycho dietetics.
Take the first step towards your goals with the genetics Weight Management and Obesity Test.
What you will learn from this DNA Weight loss and Obesity test:
- Whether your genes make you prone to obesity (i.e. a thrifty genotype). For example, people with the AA variant of the TFAP2B gene obtain the best weight loss performance on a diet that is low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates. In contrast, the weight loss process for those with the GG and AG gene variants function more effectively on diets containing a higher proportion of unsaturated fats and a reduced intake of carbohydrates. Which genotype are you? This will be revealed in the test, as well specific dietary recommendations based on your results.
- Which kind of diet is most beneficial for your genotype. We will reveal the optimum composition of nutrients within your diet based on your DNA. This will enable you to combat any traits within your genes which predispose to weight gain and development of associated health concerns.
- How your genes affect the level of leptin – a hormone which reduces appetite. If you have a risk genotype FTO (fat mass and obesity associated) gene that is associated with an increased BMI and obesity, we will provide recommendations on how you can plan eating behaviour and control cravings.
- Whether you are at risk of insulin resistance, which can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular system problems.
- Which kinds of physical activity will promote efficient weight loss according to your gene variation. (i.e. isometric, dynamic, cardiovascular.)
- What ‘free radicals’ are, how your genotype affects the levels within your body, and advice on the action you can take to control levels.
- The functioning of the SOD2 enzyme and how it affects your body. The diagnosis of the genetic variant will inform you of the food types that will work best to strengthen the body’s antioxidant system. The malfunction of this enzyme can increase the risk of coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.
- How the metabolism of folic acid (vitamin B9) is affected by the MTHFR enzyme, and how incorrect functioning can lead to cardiovascular diseases, neurological problems including insomnia, forgetfulness, memory problems, anxiety, fear, depression or irritability.
- Which gene you carry responsible for abdominal muscles (abdominal obesity), and how diet can help to combat the effects of an undesirable gene.
- How your genotype breaks down and processes food in the form of fat, protein and carbohydrate. And how the optimal energy distribution over a day should be. (graphical, e.g.)
- You will receive a list of foods (easily accessible and affordable) which can help you with weight loss, according to your genotype and you will learn which foods should be included in your diet, and which foods are best to avoid. Often just altering the type of fat consumed within your diet can lead to significant weight loss progress.
As you can see, our genes affect our mental and physical health in a variety of ways, influencing many things, from body weight, to sleep patterns. We trust that – once equipped with the understanding of your genotype and knowledge of how to utilise the strengths of your DNA – you will be ever closer to your health goals. Take the first step today for a brighter, healthier future, with our Weight and Obesity Test.
The power of genetic insight
Back in 2010, the Wall Street Journal did a survey that showed that a diet based on personal genetic insight, increased weight loss by an average of 280%! If you consider how much genetics research has progressed in the years since 2010, then you can understand how powerful this genetic insight is.

Facts about obesity and genetics
In today’s society, obesity is a becoming an ever increasing issue, affecting people of all ages, genders, and of all social and economic backgrounds. Most of the factors around obesity are well known – food intake, physical activity, and psychology – however, there is one area often overlooked: genetics. Research into how our DNA affects our health and weight is a relatively new field, although developments in science and technology have allowed us to discover how our genetic information can be a significant factor in our predisposition to a range of health issues, including obesity. In turn, we can then recognise how different gene variants respond to external stimuli, i.e. different types of foods and different methods of exercise. This allows us to provide personalised advice on diet and exercise suited to an individual based on their specific genes.
What is your BMI?
The World Health Organisation recognises WHO, in their latest report, that more than 1.9 billion adults (> 18), and 41 million children (< 5) were overweight or obese, and the number is ever increasing. Health experts predict that – in the UK – 74% of men and 64% of women will be overweight by 2030. Overweight and obesity, commonly caused by an excess of body fat due to excess energy intake and lack of energy expenditure, is strongly associated with serious health conditions such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, cancers, stroke and myocardial infarction (heart attack). Being overweight or obese is classified by the Body Mass Index (BMI).
You can calculate your BMI by following this link from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
